When my Uncle Dan drove up to pick Leo and Jeff and I up to take us to his house to spend Christmas with him and his boys-Andrew and Alec-we told Leo that he was Santa. He has a white beard and white hair and is fairly jolly (NOT FAT...JUST HAPPY) so it worked. The entire trip Leo would go up to Dan and be like "look Santa I-" fill in blank for whatever incredible mundane but amazing thing he did. Picked up a pillow. Got a banana etc etc.
We just got back from their house a few hours and ago and I'm tired and need to get ready for my last week of shows in DC but I wanted to post some pictures of everybody. We had a really lovely time. It's quite a nice thing for people to open up their homes and their mancaves on Christmas and let some new-ish family in. Jeff was completely at home because it was a lot of history talk and Rye drinking.
Andrew is this amazing cook. He made an INCREDIBLE gumbo one day and then Goose for christmas dinner. Which--who knew--is like the steak of bird meat. I wanted to not like it the way I don't like duck so I could feel I was looking out for the fowl but it was delicious. The McQuillen boys are amazing company--funny--interesting complex guys cooking meat and smoking cigars.
Jeff just walked in from trying to go to the "Crime and Punishment" museum and he got there and decided not to go because once he got there it looked like a tourist trap and it cost 20 bucks. I can't tell which aspect really pushed him away. He just got mad at me because I laughed at him when he said it looked like a tourist trap. the only reason he told me he'd even wanted to go in the first place was to see all the 'old electric chairs"....so there you go.
