when they are celebrating. When they jump up and down like they're on the Price is Right. During the Olympics whenever a guy would win they would scream like a Gorilla and punch at everything around them. Rip their shirt off, pull their own teeth out and then turn and scream in the face of the loser next to them. YEAHHHHH!!!!!!!
That was me yesterday in front of Jeff when I found out that I got a book deal with Plume (off shoot of Penguin).
Jeff is home by the way. Our freezer is full of Salmon. Come Visit. BACK TO ME.
The book is going to be short comedic essays-like my first one-about family stuff. But don't worry it's not going to be about any of you guys. I'll write about a made up family that lives in Idaho or something. Named the Reedmans.
To be paid to write a book (that will take me the next year or so) is INCREDIBLE. And another chance to exploit people I love-another chance to spend a year constantly feeling like I need to be writing--another chance to try and get Ritalin from strangers to get work done!
And as my mother Sharon said after I announced my first book deal to her "well...maybe this will lead to something."
Okay-back to the parts of life that don't pay...(but they pay in bigger ways. Don't worry-I know that.)
Jeff's homecoming could not have been more sweet. Leo was hugging him and touching his face--kissing him over and over again. If I walked in the room Leo would yell "GO TO WORK!" to get rid of me. It turns out that Leo really likes Jeff.
Jeff was exhausted from Alaska--emotionally and physically. He kept saying to me "just wait until you're older Lauren..just wait." So now he's got me all excited about being 50. We are so glad he is home.
