The landlord--who is a very sweet man in his mid 80's is outside my window trying to make a gate for the little back area. (the concrete strip that is Leo's backyard--that is full of plastic bags that blow over from the homeless park across the street. Come visit!) Mr Hester (the landlord) pounds once at a nail and then sits and tries to catch his breath for about five minutes. I'M NOT KIDDING. When I went out and told him that I think he should just get someone to help him and come inside and take it easy he said "oh no...I've taken some of my peppy pills so I can get this one rail up. I'm almost done for the day anyway. I can only work about 30 minutes) which is 6 nails. He's very feeble and I wish he would GET SOME HELP!!! It's heartbreaking and worrisome to watch him. He had a stroke a month ago and when I asked him about that he said he was doing fine now. He just can't remember things. BLESS HIS HEART. really. Though he may be faking to keep us scared to ask him to fix anything because we're scared he'll collapse unclogging our bathtub or something. I told him that Jeff will finish the fence when he gets back from Alaska because after working on the boat he can make lemon bars and fix random broken things with hopefully more than the bright pink duck tape he always uses.
I have been FILLING THE social calender and have been going to as many barbecues and pool parties and random toddler events that I can. And it's been fun. Leo likes the pool--we go to a community pool once a week that was the original pool in some Hearst mansion--or the Marion Davies mansion way back. (she was Hearsts lover and he had a large mansion on the ocean built for her) Leo likes the life of a mistress and swims and eats fries and plays on the beach and takes everyone's toys. I act like I'm trying to teach him to share when he does that. Just like I ACT like he doesn't watch TV. I acted mortified when he pointed to a kids shirt on the playground and screamed ELMO!!
Jeff had some rough waters and the net came loose and they lost 2 big net fulls of fish. But he's making a spicy chicken curry to lift the crews spirits tonight.
I'm going to post some photos for Jeff--he asked me to please post some still photos because he can't download the videos in Alaska...so here are some STILLS....
And Leo kissed a man in the park the other day. A big kind of scary looking Armenian man who was throwing a ball for his dogs. The man's dogs lunged at Leo's face and the guy said "they are trying to kiss you" and Leo thought he said "kiss me" and walked up and puckered up and held his face up to this man who he'd just met about 2 minutes before. And oh my god--the guy loved it. I loved it. Leo loved it. Thankfully the guy didn't kiss him on his lips. Just his forehead. And I didn't mean to imply that Armenians are scary. My friend Bill isn't scary. Once you get to know him and get past his scary intense Armenian appearance.

ReplyDeleteI'm kind of a spelling fanatic...it hurts to read that post. Sorry. Besides that, you took this out of context April. It's hard to understand the blog if you don't really know the people or what they are really like. Your intent was probably honorable, but it is not needed here- they are a great and caring family.
